Shelly DeViller, Executive Director, is a community minded person who has been involved in many roles of the 4-H program over the last 17 years. She has been involved with Hubtown Theatre for the past five years, mostly behind the scenes, although she made a very brief appearance on stage as a lingerie sales clerk in the production of Mrs. Parliament’s Night Out. Shelly was chairperson for the 2015 Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition, Exploring the Senses of Agriculture – See, Taste, Touch, Smell. She has worked as a Continuing Care Assistant in long term and acute care for 13 years, taking on extra roles such as Unit Chairperson with Unifor, before filling the Executive Director position at the Colchester Food Bank in 2022. Shelly is dedicated to helping the community by advocating for those who are food insecure, and providing education to community partners about what food insecurity looks like in Truro and Colchester County.

“Food nourishes your body for the nutrients it needs and when we come together to eat, it nourishes our souls. What do you think it does to your soul when you can’t afford to provide food for yourself and family?”

Farrah Allen-McKay, Client Services Coordinator, has a large family of eight wonderful sons, five glorious grandchildren and an elder dog named Roxy. She loves making memories with her loved ones by being on the land, which usually involves a four-wheeler trail or ten. Farrah’s late father introduced her to the Food Bank in 1992 to volunteer, and that is what has guided her in the passion for a career at the Food Bank. Farrah credits past Executive Director Mary DeAdder for guiding her into the person she is today, by teaching her the meaning of providing support, dignified respect, powerful human interaction and true humility. Farrah has been involved with the Colchester Food Bank for two and a half decades: first as a volunteer and later in various staff roles before settling into the role of Client Services Coordinator in 2022. Farrah aims to serve others, contribute to society, and grow with the organization in a fun, kind and respectful way.

“Kindness is giving hope to those who think they are all alone in this world.”-Lewis Brownlee
